Tumble Audio – Jedi EP [TUM005] (Tumble Audio) (Release)

Tumble Audio have been putting in the work this year and this is their 5th release since November 2012. This release features all 3 Tumble starlets Killjoy, Sergic & Lyka.

The two tunes on the EP produced by Sergic (‘Jedi’ and a remix of Majora’s Juno number 1 anthem ‘Boss Key’) fully embrace the resurgent sound of instrumental grime – but rather than taking his tunes down an eski road, as so many producers are doing so nowadays, he instead carpets his beats in a shroud of experimental, almost eyes down darkness, giving the tracks an interesting and unique edge when placing them within the new school grime canon.

‘Jedi’ utilises, distorted, hollowed out FM style basslines, classic samples culled from the original ‘Star Wars’ series and chunky, stop-start drum patterns, whereas the ‘Boss Key’ remix employs a mixture of ‘Pulse X’ inspired distorted kicks and held, heavily modulated dubstep-esq bass tones over its hard, stomping, clipped beats.

The ‘Filthy Vicars’ remix of ‘Sergic & Lyka’s’ “Bulletproof”, employs a more standard, 8-bar grime format, than the proceeding Sergic tunes, using the more classic eski template of sounds that are commonly associated with the genre at the moment. ‘I Killed Kenny’s’ remix of “Bulletproof” takes the original funky number and mutates it into a grimey almost ghetto version of electro-house, making the tune an inspiring, new take on the ever mutating sound of the UK underground.
